Questions

Frequently asked

The short answers about the alpha. If yours isn't here, report it in the game.

Invites and the waitlist

How do I get in?

The alpha is invite-only for now. Request access to join the waitlist. When there's room for more players we send invitations by email, and you then sign in with that same address.

Why invite-only?

It's one small server, and the game changes a lot from week to week. A small group of testers lets us read every report and fix things quickly. We'll open up as the game and the server grow.

Can I bring friends?

Yes please, the game is better with a crew. Each person needs their own invitation, so send them to the request-access page.

Characters and wipes

Will my character be wiped?

We don't plan to, but we might. Characters, levels, bags, quests and positions are saved on the server. If a change to the game ever needs a reset, we'll announce it in the patch notes first. At the end of the alpha we may also start everyone fresh. Play for the fun of it, not for the loot.

The game restarted, or asked me to reload. Why?

When we deploy an update, a banner counts down to the restart. Afterwards the game reconnects you by itself, usually right where you were. If your copy of the game is older than the server's, the game asks you to Reload so both are on the same version.

Where is the server?

In Germany. Players in Europe get the best connection. You can play from farther away, but expect more lag.

Platforms

What do I need to play?

  • A computer with a keyboard and mouse. Phones and tablets aren't supported.
  • A graphics card with WebGL2. Any computer from the last several years should have one.
  • A recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, or the desktop app for macOS or Windows.

Is there a Linux version?

There's no Linux app yet, but the game runs in a recent browser on Linux: play in the browser.

Desktop app or browser?

What's the difference?

It's the same game on the same server, with the same account and characters. The desktop app is a small window that loads the game, without the browser's parts:

  • Browser shortcuts like Ctrl/Cmd+W, T and N can't close or switch your tab in the middle of a fight.
  • The game isn't slowed down when the window is in the background.
  • No address bar or tabs, sound starts straight away, and laptops use their faster graphics chip.

The browser is the quickest way to try the game. The app is nicer if you play often. Download it here.

Does the app update itself?

The game inside it does: the app loads the game from our server, so it's always the current version. The app itself only rarely changes, and tells you when a new download is available.

My computer warns that the app isn't safe

The alpha builds aren't code-signed yet, so macOS says the app “can't be verified” and Windows SmartScreen says “Windows protected your PC”. The download page shows how to open it anyway: Open Anyway under System Settings → Privacy & Security on a Mac, and More info → Run anyway on Windows.

Reporting bugs

How do I report a bug?

In the game, type /bug in chat, or press Esc and choose Report a bug. Pick a category, give it a title and describe what happened, and what you expected instead. Tick the box to attach a screenshot if it helps. The screenshot is taken just before the form opens, so the form isn't in it.

You can send one report a minute and up to 20 a day.

What makes a good report?

  • Report it from the spot where it happened, if you can. The report records where you are.
  • Say what you did just before, step by step.
  • One problem per report.

Privacy

What does a bug report include?

Besides the category, title and description you write:

  • A screenshot of the game view, only if you tick the box. It shows the game's 3D view and nothing else on your screen.
  • Your character's position and game state: account and character, zone and position, level and health, your target and whether you're in combat, active quests, party size and the game time.
  • Your game's recent error messages: its last 50 errors and warnings.
  • Recent chat lines you could see, for context.
  • Browser and graphics info: the game and desktop-app versions, your graphics card, frame rate, ping, screen size and game settings.
  • The server's recent log lines from around that moment.

Reports are read only by the people working on the game, to find and fix problems.

What about my account?

Sign-in is handled by Clerk, an account service. Clerk stores your email address and handles signing in. The game server keeps your account id, display name and email address, your characters and their progress, and the bug reports you send.

You can delete characters from the character screen. To delete your whole account, send a report in the game with the category “Other”.

Does this website track me?

No. This site has no analytics, ads or cookies. The fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, and the download page asks our download server for the latest version number.
